Report on Georgia to be heard at PACE session

Tbilisi, Georgia, Oct. 1
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

A Georgian parliamentary delegation is participating in the meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), held in Strasbourg from September 29 to October 3.

The Georgian delegation includes the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations Tedo Japaridze and MPs Irakli Chikovani, Chiora Taktakishvili, Levan Berdzenishvili, Guguli Magradze, Tinatin Bokuchava, Eka Beselia and Giorgi Kandelaki, the Georgian parliament told Trend.
The agenda includes the Ukrainian crisis, the fight against xenophobia and neo-Nazism, improving the quality of education and the fight against breast cancer.

On October 1, the monitoring committee will hear a report on Georgia. It will be presented by the co-rapporteurs on Georgia Michael Jensen and Boris Tsilevich. It should be stressed that the draft statement testifies to the prosecution for political reasons in Georgia. In particular, Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili and former Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia were named.

The representatives of the majority of the Georgian parliament intend to challenge this conclusion and to change the wording prepared by the co-rapporteurs.
