Head of NATO liaison office William Lahue reacted to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and explained that the Georgian center, not the NATO training base will be created in Georgia.

"The issue that is being discussed concerns the training center of the partners," he said. "NATO will provide help to the Ministry of Defence of Georgia in setting up this center. It belongs to the Georgian Defence Ministry and is being created by a group of our advisers."

Recently, the Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania said that Georgia will build NATO training center and the proposal has already been submitted to the headquarters of the alliance by the government of Georgia.

Lahue said that such a center as a Sachkhere highland fusiliers training base already operates in Georgia.

"So it's not new to Georgia," said Lahue. "We can call it neither NATO base, nor NATO training center. It will be the Georgian center."
