EU High Commissioner and European Commission Vice President Catherine Ashton sent a letter in connection with the expiration of her authority to Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze. Ashton thanked Panjikidze for the cooperation.

"My authority as the EU High Commissioner is under expiration," a letter says. "I would like to use this opportunity and express my gratitude for the excellent cooperation. Together we consistently strengthened and expanded bilateral relations between the EU and Georgia. This culminated in the signing of the association agreement in June 2014."

Ashton said that the association agreement including free trade agreement will be beneficial for Georgia and the EU.

"I believe Georgia will continue implementing the European agenda of ambitious reforms including the association agenda," the letter says. "In the nearest future we will see the visa regime liberalization, the progress in the rule of law and independence of court.''

Ashton reconfirmed EU's support towards Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Panjikidze also sent a letter to Ashton. She thanked her for supporting Georgia's integration with Europe and expressed hope that she will remain a friend of Georgia.
