Georgia advanced in the visa regime liberalization with the EU, the European Commission said.

This statement was made after the Commission received the second report on the implementation of the visa regime liberalization plan, the Georgian foreign ministry said Oct. 29.

Georgia fulfilled the first phase of the requirements of the visa dialogue and may proceed to the second phase, the European Commission said.

"I am pleased with the results," EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström said. "I want to congratulate the Georgian government on the conducted work. They demonstrated the legislative changes. This is significant success and an important step in the process that brings Georgia closer to the EU."
