By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili introduced new defense minister Mindia Janelidze at the State Chancellery.

"This is a worthy candidate," he said. "He will be better than his predecessor. Janelidze is a professional."

Until today Janelidze served as head of the National Security and Crisis Management Council.

Earlier, he was the head of counter-intelligence department of the Georgian Interior Ministry.

Garibashvili was interior minister that period.

Garibashvili made a statement in connection with Defense Minister Irakli Alasania's resignation.

The reason is the attempts to politicize the defense ministry and to refuse from cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office in connection with three criminal cases against senior officials of the ministry.

Alasania appreciated his successor.

"Janelidze is a patriot who loves his Motherland," Alasania said in an interview with "Rustavi 2" TV company.
