Georgia enlists EU support in relations with Russia

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Jalagania met with the head of the department of bilateral relations with the EU Eastern Partnership countries Dirk Schuebel.

The cooperation issues between the EU and Georgia were discussed at the meeting, the Georgian foreign ministry said Nov. 20.

Special attention was paid to the results of the first meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Council held on November 17.

Schuebel appreciated Georgian Prime Minister's visit to Brussels. He said that his clear statements in connection with the unchanged European course, as well as the appointment of Tamar Beruchashvili Foreign Minister are an important positive signal for the EU.

The sides also discussed the priorities of the current cooperation, including the temporary association agreement and the transition of the visa liberalization plan to the second phase of the implementation.

While talking about the regional challenges, Schuebel said that the EU condemns Russia's attempts to aggravate the situation in the region and will support Georgia to remove any negative consequences caused by Russia's aggressive policy.
