Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec.8

The "Treaty on Alliance between Russia and Abkhazia" will be the main topic at the next round of Geneva talks, Georgian State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration David Bakradze told reporters on Dec.8.

Russia and Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia signed a "treaty on alliance and integration" on Nov.24.

The 30th round of the talks will kick off in Geneva on Dec.9. This will be the first meeting between the Georgian and Russian sides after the signing of the "Treaty on Alliance between Russia and Abkhazia".

"Our aim is to hold a constructive, result-oriented meeting," Bakradze said. "Naturally, the discussions will focus on the so-called agreement. We'd better to talk about the results following the negotiations."

The Geneva talks were convened after the armed conflict in August 2008 in Georgia, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of Aug. 12, 2008.

Large-scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.

Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August.

In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
