Architecture of world security faces important challenges – Georgian PM

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili took part in the informal meeting of the world leaders within the frameworks of the World Economic Forum in Davos, administration of the Georgian government told Trend.

It is reported that the new global context of strategic competition was discussed at the meeting.

In his speech, Garibashvili focused on the current situation in the world. "In recent months and years, the architecture of world security is facing important challenges," Garibashvili said. "The new waves of aggressive separatism and interstate and intrastate conflicts as well as the growing danger of terrorism and other global problems are posing threat to the state sovereignty, territorial integrity and the basic principles of fundamental freedoms and human rights."

The Georgian prime minister also drew attention to the fact that Georgia recognizes that the strengthening of democracy is a strategic priority for society and they try their best to intensify efforts to promote fundamental freedoms, the rule of law and respect for human rights in the country.

"At the same time, we firmly believe that democracy and human rights have to be placed at the heart of any political and economic relations, be they of an inter-state or an intrastate nature," said Garibashvili. "We are also convinced that only democratic and independent states which are free to choose their foreign policy priorities, that join alliances and integrate into unions are capable of engaging in such cooperation which may accommodate the needs and concerns of all stakeholders concerned."

The informal meeting of the world leaders was attended by the presidents and prime ministers of different countries as well as by Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder of the World Economic Forum, the OSCE Secretary General, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the representatives of large business companies.
