Several former employees of Georgian Interior Ministry were detained on Feb.2 morning.

Among them were former deputy head of the Criminal Police of the Interior Ministry Irakli Pirtskhalava, former investigator of the sixth branch of the Investigation Department of the Interior Ministry Levan Berodze and former commander of the Interior Ministry's special forces Koba Nakani, according to the preliminary data.

Irakli Pirtskhalava confirmed to the Rustavi-2 TV channel that he is being taken to Georgia's Prosecutor General's Office on Feb.2 in the morning.

The Prosecutor General's Office told reporters that it will make an official statement following the interrogation of Irakli Pirtskhalava, Koba Nakani and Levan Berodze.

Rustavi-2 TV channel reported that all the detained have been taken to the Prosecutor General's Office in connection with the investigation into the case of a special operation held in Tbilisi in May 2006.

During the mentioned operation, a person named Zurab Vazagashvili was killed by the police. The reports at the time said Vazagashvili and his associates were plotting an armed assault on a Tbilisi family.

Relatives and friends of Zurab Vazagashvili denied the above version and demanded a thorough investigation.
