Georgia doesn't intend to consider the restoration of the railway through Abkhazia, Georgia's Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili said in Brussels Feb. 26.

She was commenting on a statement made by the deputy foreign minister of Russia, Grigory Karasin.

Today, before the talks in Prague with the special representative of the Georgian prime minister for relations with Russia, Zurab Abashidze, Karasin said the meeting would address the restoration of railway service through Abkhazia, noting that the issue should be solved with the participation of the Abkhaz side.

"We don't intend to raise this issue and discuss it, especially in the Karasin-Abashidze format," said Beruchashvili.

She said the issue is "complex".

"It is needed to fulfil a lot of preliminary conditions for this topic to be addressed," she said.

Large-scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.

Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
