The United National Movement urges to convene the Security Council of Georgia. According to the representatives of the opposition, the negotiations with Gazprom must be considered by the authorities in this format, Georgia Online reported.

The United National Movement representatives see the risks for the country during the negotiations with the Russian gas monopolist. They said that the authorities unreasonably refuse from the Azerbaijani gas.

"Georgia annually consumes 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas," Zurab Melikishvili, the representative of the United National Movement, said. "Some 1 billion cubic meters of them are supplied via the pipeline of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan). By its policy, the Georgian government refuses from the relations with a stable supplier, a strategic partner - Azerbaijan and begins to negotiate with the country and the company, acting in a political direction despite the economic issue."

A decision of negotiating with Gazprom is of political nature," Nugzar Tsiklauri, another member of the United National Movement, said. "It is aimed at weakening the country's energy security.

"We urge the Georgian government and the president to convene a meeting of the Security Council, which will consider this important issue," Tsiklauri said.
