Georgian former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili officially left the Georgian Dream party.

This statement was made following a meeting of the political council of the party Jan. 30, Georgia Online reported.

"The political council contacted Garibashvili and he confirmed once again his decision," Zviad Kvachantiradze, one of the leaders of the parliamentary majority, said.

A decision was taken to nominate current prime minister as a candidate for the party chairman. The party congress will be held in spring.

"The Secretariat granted Kvirikashvili's appeal to join the party and he was invited to the meeting of the political council," he said.
