Koba Gvenetadze has been appointed the governor of Georgia's National Bank according to a decree signed by the country's President Giorgi Margvelashvili March 17, Sputnik Georgia reported March 17.

Gvenetadze's candidacy was presented to the Georgia's president March 16 according to National Bank's board's decision.

"I think that a professional of such high rank is really useful for the National Bank and the positive processes that we hope in our economy," Margvelashvili told journalists after his meeting with Gvenetadze.

On March 2, the Georgian Parliament approved the former senior economist at the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Koba Gvenetadze as the member of the board of Georgia's National Bank.

He also worked as a senior economist in the National Bank of Georgia in 1994-1996.
