Turkey has saved more than one billion liras as the country stopped switching to winter time, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak said responding to the Republican People's Party member’s question about the effectiveness of that measure Jan. 27.

The minister also added that the decision was made on the basis of the scientific analysis conducted by the Istanbul Technical University.

Turkey stopped switching to winter time upon the decision of the country’s Cabinet of Ministers in September 2016.

Earlier, Turkey switched to daylight saving time in March and back to winter time in October.
