OIC calls to focus international efforts on resolving Syrian crisis

The international community should concentrate its efforts on resolving the Syrian crisis. In this regard, an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held in the Saudi city of Jeddah on June 24, the organisation’s statement quotes Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu as saying on Thursday.

The international community should concentrate its efforts on resolving the Syrian crisis. In this regard, an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held in the Saudi city of Jeddah on June 24, the organisation's statement quotes Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu as saying on Thursday.

"The meeting will discuss problems of the Islamic world, but the main topic of discussion will be the Syrian crisis," Ihsanoglu said.

Also, delegates will discuss the issue of Palestinian refugees, Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory, as well as the political crisis in Sudan.

Syria has been covered by anti-government protests for more than year resulting in violent clashes. According to UN figures, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 12,000.
