The trial of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of deceased Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, on charges of undermining state security, is set to resume Thursday in the western city of Zintan, dpa reported.
"This trial is unrelated to the major cases of war crimes he is facing," Libyan Justice Minister Salah al-Marghani was quoted as saying.
The younger Gaddafi has been held since November 2011, when he was arrested almost a month after his father was captured and killed after an armed uprising ended his 42-year rule.
Thursday's trial relates to an alleged attempt by Saif al-Islam to escape with help from a team from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In June 2012, Libya detained an ICC team on suspicion of smuggling documents to the younger Gaddafi while visiting him in prison. The ICC team members were later released after a protest from the court.
John Jones, a lawyer for Gaddafi, told the Dubai-based broadcaster Al Arabiya that the trial was unfair and that he had been unable to meet with his client.
The first session of the trial started in January, but was postponed until May 2 to give the released ICC delegation time to show up at the court.
It is not clear yet if the team will appear for Thursday's session.
Libya has resisted pressure from The Hague-based ICC to hand over Gaddafi for trial on charges of crimes against humanity during the uprising against his father's rule.
The ICC, which issued its arrest warrant for him in June 2011, has questioned whether he would receive a fair trial in the North African country.
