The rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) has rejected a Russian proposal to bring Damascus' chemical weapons arsenal under international control, dpa reported.

"The command announces its vehement rejection of the Russian initiative," Salim Idriss, the head of the FSA Supreme Military Council, said in a video posted on YouTube.

"The command calls on the international community not to be complacent about dismantling the chemical weapons, but to go further and bring to justice the ones who perpetrated the crime," he added.

Idriss was referring to a deadly chemical attack near Damascus last month, which the opposition blames on the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
