An operation has been launched to capture a man of Syrian origin who left a bag filled with ammunition on a passenger bus travelling from Kahramanmaras to Istanbul on June 1.
The man reportedly asked officials to stop the bus mid-journey, saying he did not feel well and wanted to get out. After leaving the bus, he ran away through a nearby forested area.
Passengers called the local gendarmerie upon the man's suspicious disappearance. Grenades and ammunition were then found in the bag that he left on the bus.
The ammunition was seized for a criminal examination, while an operation has been launched to capture the man.
Police retrieved security camera footage showing the man at Kahramanmaras bus station, and an investigation is ongoing into the man's connections in both Kahramanmaras and Istanbul.
