3 blasts rock Sanaa International Airport

A fire, triggered by three explosions, broke out at the Sanaa International Airport (El Rahaba Airport), as the Saudi-led coalition continues its strikes against Houthi rebel positions in Yemen, Sputniknews reported on Wednesday.

The fire occurred in the north part of the airport, the source said in the early hours of Wednesday, adding that the Yemen Air Force headquarters near the Sanaa International Airport were also hit by coalition airstrikes, along with the al-Daylami air base, located close to the capital.

An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been carrying out airstrikes in Yemen since late March, targeting the positions of Houthi rebels. The special operation was launched following a request for military support from Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The Shiite Houthis have taken control of Sanaa and other cities in Yemen, having forced the Yemeni government to resign in January. Hadi escaped house arrest in February, fled to the southern port city of Aden and recalled his resignation. In late March, Hadi left Yemen for Saudi Arabia.

Russia has been evacuating its own citizens as well as nationals of other states from Yemen amid the hostilities.
