The Takfiri Daesh terrorist group has claimed responsibility for a deadly car bomb attack that killed over a dozen people in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, PressTV reported.

The terrorist group early on Sunday claimed the bombing on Tweeter, saying that the Iraqi army, federal police and government-backed Popular Mobilization forces were the target of the attack.

At least 13 people were killed and as many as 52 others sustained injuries late on Saturday in the car bomb attack at a popular auto dealership in Sadr City, a district in northeastern Baghdad.

The car dealership, known as Habibiya, is widely known for buying and selling used vehicles and has been hit several times in the past.

According to Iraqi police, a bomb attack on the same day hit a popular market in the town of Madain, south Baghdad, killing at least three people and wounding 10 others.

Meanwhile, two people were killed and eight others sustained injuries after a bomb tore through a row of auto repair shops in the town of Taji, north of Baghdad.

In another incident, an improvised explosive device went off on a busy commercial street in the al-Askan district in the capital, killing at least two people and wounding eight others.

Iraqi police also said at least two people were killed and seven others wounded in a bomb attack on a commercial street in Baghdad's southeastern suburb of Jisr Diyala.

Gruesome violence has plagued various parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of swathes of Iraqi territory. Units of army soldiers coupled with volunteer fighters are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.

On August 13, at least 62 people were killed and 200 others wounded in a truck bomb attack in the Jameela market in Baghdad's crowded Sadr City. Daesh claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

Last month, the extremist militant group targeted a popular market in the eastern province of Diyala, killing some 115 people in one of the worst single attacks to tear through the country in a decade.
