Afghan security forces have stepped up attacks against Taliban hideouts across the war-ravaged country in recent months, PressTV reported.

There has been a major surge in violence across Afghanistan over the past months after the Taliban militants vowed to expand attacks against Afghan and foreign forces as part of the militants' so-called spring offensive in late April.

The Asian country is experiencing growing insecurity nearly 14 years after US and its NATO allies invaded the country in 2001 as part of Washington's so-called war on terror.

The US-led offensive unseated the Taliban from power, but many areas in the Asian country are still beset with armed clashes, bombings and killings.Afghan security forces have killed nearly 120 Taliban militants and wounded dozens of others during clean-up operations across the war-torn country over the past 48 hours, Press TV reports.

The Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that at least 118 Taliban militants were killed and 62 others injured in a series of large-scale security operations carried out in a number of provinces, including Nangarhar, Laghman, Faryab and Helmand, as well as Khak-i-Jabar and Sorubi districts of the capital, Kabul.

Afghan security forces also managed to detain at least four Taliban militants during the raids, it added.

The statement noted that at least 14 soldiers of Afghan army have also lost their lives in a series of militant attacks and landmine explosions over the past two days.
