Four soldiers with the international military coalition were killed Saturday in two separate attacks, one an insider shooting, New York Times reported.

In one attack, an Afghan soldier opened fire on the international forces serving with him in eastern Afghanistan, killing three soldiers, a spokesman for the military coalition, Staff Sgt. Daniel Wallace, said.

The shooting occurred in Paktika Province near the Pakistan border, local officials said.

In western Afghanistan's Farah Province, an Italian soldier was killed when two men on a motorcycle threw a grenade at a convoy of troops returning to their base from the provincial capital, the governor's spokesman, Abdul Rahman Zahwandi, said.

"It happened in the capital, and there were crowds of people," he said. "The two attackers managed to escape."

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force confirmed the death in a statement.
