Karzai says he won't immediately sign US security pact

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said that he will not immediately sign the bilateral security agreement with the United States, despite a plea from the tribal elders to do so by the end of the year, dpa reported.

Karzai said the US needs to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan before he would sign the document.

"If there is no peace, then this agreement will bring misfortune to Afghanistan. Peace is our precondition. America should bring us peace and then we will sign it," Karzai told the tribal elders meeting in Kabul.
