The Executive Director of UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), Deputy Secretary General of the UN Babatunde Osotimehin, has arrived in Georgia on an official visit.

Osotimehin will attend the UNFPA regional meeting in the capacity of being part of the East European and Central Asian regions, the Fund told Trend.

The priorities of the Fund's activity for 2014 will be discussed at the meeting with around 110 representatives of regional national bureaus on Feb.17.

"UNFPA has been cooperating with Georgian government for many years in the prevention of breast and uterine cancer by financing the early detection of this disease.

Currently, the screening programme which began in 2008 is being successfully implemented. The Fund's purpose is to create an environment in which the pregnancy is wanted, the birth is safe and young people can fully develop their potential," the Fund said.
