Poroshenko introduces EU association agreement to Ukraine’s parliament

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko introduced a draft law on ratification of Ukraine's association agreement with the EU to the country's parliament known as the Verkhovna Rada, Interfax reported Sept. 15.

In a message posted on its website, the Verkhovna Rada said the document was registered Sept. 15.

Ukraine and the European Union signed the economic part of the association agreement on June 27 in Brussels. This part provides for the creation of a free trade zone.

The agreement's economic part provides for Ukraine's deeper economic integration with the EU, as well as creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade zone.

It is planned that the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament will simultaneously ratify the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement on Sept. 16.

At the same time, Ukraine and the EU agreed to postpone the implementation of the association agreement in terms of the functioning of a free trade zone until Dec. 31, 2015.
