Some 15 police officers were injured in the unrests that broke out in front of the Ukrainian parliament the Verkhovna Rada Oct. 14.

"The provocateurs' illegal actions inflicted injuries to 15 police officers," Ukrainian Interior Minister's Advisor Anton Gerashchenko said on his page on Facebook, TASS news agency reported.

He noted that the police officers had their heads, arms and joints injured as a result of the unrests.

Gerashchenko said 21 offenders have been arrested till now, adding that they threw stones, broke glass, threw firecrackers, and attacked the law enforcement officers.

The police department of Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, said a total of 8,000 people took part in the rally.

The unrests broke out after the MPs refused to consider a bill on recognition of the soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army as a side fighting for Ukraine's independence in the World War II.

The Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov, in defiance of all rules, made seven attempts to put this issue for a vote, but it didn't gain the required number of votes.

Afterwards, young people in masks carrying the banners of the Svoboda (Freedom) party began removing paving blocks, throwing them at the parliament building.

Stun grenades, smoke bombs and firecrackers were thrown at a police cordon. As a result, the parliament's meeting was declared closed.
