Total’s late chief exec de Margerie had successor

Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 21

Trend:

The CEO of the French oil company Total, Christophe de Margerie, who died in a plane crash at Moscow's Vnukovo airport on early Oct. 21, was preparing a successor, RIA Novosti news agency said citing the French media.

The Radio France Info said the position of the Total chief executive can go to Philippe Boisseau, the president of marketing & services and new energies, or Patrick Pouyanne, the head of refining and chemicals department.

The media outlets said that in May, the Total shareholders decided to limit the age of the company's CEO to 65. De Margerie was 63 when he died.

The Total CEO's plane crashed into a snowplough, which, according to the Russian investigators, was controlled by a drunk driver.

Three crew members were killed along with de Margerie.

The Russian Investigation Committee believes the main causes of the incident were an error of dispatcher and the snowplough driver's actions.

It is also being checked whether the pilot error or weather factors could have served as a reason for the collision.

A criminal case was launched into the incident.
