Canada is not immune to terrorist attacks - PM

The prime minister of Canada Stephen Harper has stated that the attacks on the soldiers in Quebec and the shooting in Ottawa show that Canada lacks immunity from terror attacks, RIA Novosti reported.

"This week's events are a grim reminder that Canada is not immune to the types of terrorist attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world," Harper said late Wednesday. "Let there be no misunderstanding: We will not be intimidated. Canada will never be intimidated."

Harper made the statement following the shooting of a Canadian soldier at Ottawa's National War Memorial by a gunman.

The incident comes just two days after a member of the Canadian Armed Forces was killed in a car attack in the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in Quebec, Canada.

The suspect was announced to be the 32-year old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who is reportedly of Algerian descent and was born in Canada.

Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Steven Blaney described the attack as being associated with terrorism.
