The world of science is gearing up for the second three-year run of the Large Hadron Collider in March 2015 after a two-year technical stop, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or the CERN said Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Large Hadron Collider is a 16.7 mile (27 kilometers) long particle accelerator that has now almost cooled to its nominal operating temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius above absolute zero.

"All teams are at work to get the LHC back online and the CERN Control Centre is in full swing to carry out all the requested tests before circulating proton beams again in March 2015," the organization said.

The LHC will run at almost double the energy of its first run, it added.

"With this new energy level, the LHC will open new horizons for physics and for future discoveries," said the organization's Director-General Rolf Heuer.

Scientists had discovered two new subatomic particles using the advanced machine back in November.
