At least 1,805 people are known to have been killed as a result f the powerful earthquake, which shook Nepal on Saturday, Reuters reports citing an anonymous Nepalese Home Ministry official.

Speaking on Sunday, the official said that 4,718 have been injured in the 7.8-magnitude quake that occurred about 82 kilometres (51 miles) northwest of Nepal's capital Kathmandu on Saturday morning.

Earlier it was reported that over 1,500 people were killed by the earthquake, including at least 18 who died under avalanches on Mount Everest, which is located about 160 kilometres (100 miles) east of Kathmandu.

India, Tibet and Bangladesh were also affected by the quake. India's Minister of Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced on Saturday that 36 people were confirmed dead in the country after the earthquake in neighbouring Nepal.

A number of world nations, including India and Russia, have offered to help Nepal in its emergency relief efforts, allocating financial aid or rescue teams.
