Police receives info on bomb threat in FIFA congress

Zurich (Switzerland) police have confirmed the fact of receiving information about an bomb threat during the 65th congress of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), TASS reported citing the local Handelszeitung newspaper.

The information was received at 11:00 am (UTC/GMT + 2 hours). Reportedly, Zurich police enhanced security after receiving information about the threat.

The 65th congress of FIFA is being held in Zurich on May 29. The organization's president will be elected during that congress. FIFA's current president Joseph S. Blatter and Jordanian Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein are running for this post.

Swiss authorities arrested several top FIFA officials early on May 26 morning.

The charges allege that there has been widespread corruption throughout football's governing body over the past 20 years, involving bids for World Cups as well as marketing and broadcast deals.

Fourteen people -- nine football officials and five sports-marketing executives -- were named in the indictment and face charges of wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering.
