President of Costa Rica issues red alert over flooding

According to the statement, the flooding caused serious damage to a great number of houses, bridges and roads. The traffic, especially in province of Limon and the cantons of Turrialba and Sarapiqui, is blocked due to landslides, Sputnik reported.

About 200 people were forced to leave their homes and seek shelters, Costa Rica's National Emergency Commission said Saturday.

The flooding in the Central American country virtually disconnected the communities on the Caribbean shore.

The Costa Rican emergency personnel have already been deployed in the area to counter the hazardous outcomes of the flooding.
