Mexican authorities in the state of Nayarit on Saturday destroyed 149 tons of marijuana collected at several illegal plots, the nation's National Security Commission said, Sputnik reported.

Five parcels of land with cannabis plants were spotted during a police raid in the town of Rosa Blanca. The crop was gathered and burned, according to the Commission.

It was the biggest haul of illegal cannabis crops in the past few years.

The government in Mexico has been fighting a war on drugs for about a decade. Its main goals are to dismantle numerous drug cartels in the country and decrease drug-related violence that kills thousands every year.
