Vice-President Joe Biden organized meetings at his Washington home to decide on running for the US presidency, as that is what his late son encouraged him to do before dying in May, Sputnik reported.
One of Joe Biden's sons, the former attorney general of Delaware Beau Biden, lost a battle to brain cancer at the age of 46. Before passing away he urged his father to give it another try and fight for the 2016 US presidency.
"It's no secret that Beau wanted him to run," said former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party Dick Harpootlian. "If he does what Beau wanted him to do, he'll run."
Following his late son's request and inspired by support from his youngest son Hunter, Biden has been recently holding meetings at his Washington residence to discuss whether he should stand against Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
"Biden is also talking to friends, family and donors about jumping in. The 72-year-old vice-president has been having meetings at his Washington residence to explore the idea of taking on Hillary in Iowa and New Hampshire," The New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd reported.
Joe Biden is known for his close ties with his family, which makes the public believe it is still possible that he will get into the race for the White House.
If he does, the run won't be easy, as he would start off his campaign with almost no support, which is much needed considering the growing strength of his main competitor. Hilary Clinton has been consistently pulling high numbers in the polls.
"Joe Biden is beloved in Iowa, but honestly, I just don't see it," said a former chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party, Sue Dvorsky.
What would make the competition even more challenging is that Biden had previously shared his respect for the Party's wish to put a woman in the White House and that he is on good terms with Clinton.
Biden, 72, had been a presidential hopeful twice, in 1988 and 2008. He publicly said he would make a decision at the end of the summer.
