Around 4,600 people have been placed in evacuation centers in Malaysia's Malacca region over heavy flooding in the country's west, local media reported Monday.

According to the New Straits Times newspaper, the 1,005 families are being placed in 13 evacuation centers across the state, according to Sputnik.

On Sunday, the media outlet reported that a boy had drowned in the floods, caused by heavy rain, in the neighboring district of Ledang.
