UN chief urges North Korea to stop provocations, return to denuclearization path

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Tuesday North Korea’s regular nuclear tests are a clear violation of the UN Security Council's resolutions, and called on Pyongyang to stop provocative actions and return to the path of nuclear disarmament, Ban’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric told journalists, TASS reported.

"The latest round of launches by the DPRK as far as Secretary General’s concern are clear violations of standing SC resolutions. We reiterate the united call by the international community on the DPRK to cease further provocations and return to the path of denuclearization," Dujarric said.

On September 5, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired three ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan. The missiles flew about 1,000 kilometers and fell into water not far from Japan’s coast.

Pyongyang has lately intensified strategic armaments tests: on August 24, a ballistic missile was fired from a submarine in the presence of President Kim Jong-un.
