A truck plowed into a trailer carrying children and adults on a Halloween hayride Oct. 31 night in rural Mississippi, killing two children and one adult and injuring at least seven other people, NBC News reported Nov. 1 citing local authorities.
Newton County Coroner Danny Shoemaker did not have details on the ages of those killed in the accident in the tiny town of Chunky, in Newton County in the eastern part of the state.
John Williamson, the county's director of emergency management, said the accident happened about 7 p.m. (8 p.m. ET) on U.S. Highway 80.
All of those killed and injured were people on the trailer being towed by another vehicle, according to Capt. John Poulos of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, which is in charge of the investigation.
