Number of those injured in a fire at a hotel in the Pakistani city of Karachi has increased to 110, while 12 people have died as a result of the incident, Sputnik reported.

At least 30 of the injured are in a critical condition and being treated for asphyxiation, according to Seemi Jamali, Executive Director at the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Complex, the Geo News media outlet reported.

About 100 people were reportedly trapped inside the hotel and were evacuated using a crane. The incident occurred early on Monday morning at the Karachi’s Regent Plaza Hotel. According to hotel sources, it broke out in the kitchen and swept through the building. There are three foreigners among those injured, including Chinese officials.

Firefighters were able to localize the fire after four hours, although rescue work was hampered due to absence of emergency exits and fire alarms. The causes of the fire are unknown. According to media reports, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah called an emergency session over the incident.
