Instagram now lets you make slideshows of up to 10 photos and videos

In Instagram’s six-year existence, people have only been able to upload one photo or video at a time. It’s partly this simplicity that has fueled the success of the Facebook Inc.-owned app, which has grown to more than 600 million registered users, Market Watch reported.

Yet on Wednesday, Instagram FB, +1.79% is beginning the global rollout of an iOS and Android app update that will let users share up to 10 photos or videos in one post.

For starters, it’s not a separate feature. When uploading a photo or video from your phone’s camera roll to your feed, you just see a new icon that says “select multiple.” Once you’ve picked your media files, you can tap and hold them to change the order, and either apply a filter to everything at once or edit them one by one. Just like stand-alone videos, each slideshow video can be up to one minute long.

This is different than the Snapchat-like Stories feature, added last year. With that, you share full-screen photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours, and there’s no public social feedback. Standard posts (including the new slideshows) allow for comments, captions and likes, yet aren’t full screen.
