Around 18 Turkish soldiers were wounded when illegal immigrants were trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border, the Turkish news agency Anadolu said on Tuesday.

According to the agency, they were wounded in a shootout with illegal immigrants who tried to cross the border. According to the Turkish Armed Forces, around 3,000 Syrian illegal immigrants were trying to cross the border in the province of Hatay.

Despite all the verbal warnings, illegal immigrants did not stop. As a result, there was a skirmish among the border guards and illegal immigrants.

Clashes between government forces and armed the opposition have been ongoing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict exceeds 100,000 people. Syrian authorities say that they are combating very well-armed militants.
