Turkish province of Diyarbakir breaks record in counter-narcotics in 2013

Turkish security forces in southeastern Diyarbakir province seized 89 tons of hashish during the counter-narcotic operations conducted in 2013 Anadoly News Agency reported.

A total of 150 tons of hashish had been seized during operations conducted across Turkey last year; 89 tons of this amount had been confiscated in Diyarbakir in 2013.

Diyarbakir security forces staged 635 operations especially in rural areas where 89 tons of hashish and 56 million cannabis had been seized.

During the drug operations, 791 suspects were detained, and 382 of them were arrested.

Chief of Counter Narcotics Department of Diyarbakir Cem Cetin told AA that 2013 was important for their department, adding that 2013 was a record-high year in terms of seized and destroyed illicit drugs.

Cetin also said at least 400 personnel were involved in the air operations.
