Turkey called on Crimean officials to clarify the death of Crimean Tatar Reshat Ametov who was last seen alive two weeks ago, protesting the Russian occupation of Crimea, Anadolu agency reported.

Ametov, 39, went missing in early March and was found dead with signs of torture on his body two weeks later.

The Turkish foreign ministry called on Crimean officials to launch an investigation into the death of Ametov, the father-of-three.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of Ametov and extend our condolences to all Crimean Tatars," Turkish foreign ministry said in a written statement. "It is unacceptable Crimean Tatars are exposed to oppression and intimidation."
