Turkey is concerned over the latestprotests in Burkina Faso demanding President Compaore's resignation on Thursday, which claimed 30 lives.

In a statement issued on Friday, Turkey's Foreign Ministry urged Burkinabe officials to provide peace and security in the country.

" Turkey supports the resolution of the crisis inBurkina Faso with dialogue and consensus," read the statement.

The angry protests came against the backdrop of a proposed constitutional amendment that would have allowed Compaore to seek a third five-year term as president.

Protesters on Thursday had set fire to the parliament building and the homes of several senior officials in the capital Ouagadougou, according to an AA correspondent.

President Blaise Compaore resigned on Friday - after 27 years of rule - shortly after the spokesman for the Burkinabe army Izaac Zida declared himself interim president and suspended the country's 1991 constitution.

At least 30 deaths and 118 injuries have been confirmed in the country during clashes between security forces and protesters, the opposition party's parliament member Ablasse Ouedraogo said Friday.
