Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's visit to Yemen has been canceled, Turkish Anadolu news agency reported Jan. 21.

The reason was the unstable situation in Yemen.

The visit was scheduled for Jan. 21.

Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen have recently attacked the president of the country, Yemeni Information Minister Nadia al-Saqqaf said.

"Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi was attacked by armed groups seeking to overthrow the regime," the minister wrote on Twitter.

At the same time, Houthi clashes with the army stopped near the presidential palace in the capital of Yemen.

Two servicemen of the presidential guard were killed during the clashes near the Yemeni presidential palace, Al Arabiya TV channel reported.

Later, the member of the political council of the Shiite Ansar Allah movement Hamza al-Houthi told RIA Novosti that the rebels are not trying to overthrow the Yemeni president. The clashes with the presidential guard were provoked by the servicemen.

The refusal by several officers to deliver weapons from the arsenal in the territory of the presidential palace to the rebels caused the clashes, the movement senior member said.
