The Prosecutor's Office of Turkey's Istanbul city demands the arrest of journalist Mehmet Baransu for allegedly being involved in Balyoz (Sledgehammer) coup attempt, Anadolu agency reported on March 2.

Reportedly, Baransu, the journalist of Turkish "Taraf" opposition newspaper, was summoned to court on March 2 to give testimony in the coup attempt case.

Moreover, a search conducted in Baransu's apartment revealed materials proving the information about his involvement in preparing the coup, according to Anadolu agency.

Turkish authorities prevented the coup under the name of Balyoz (Sledgehammer) in 2010.

Under the Balyoz plan, following the explosion at Fatih and Beyazit mosques during the Friday prayer, the attack on the country's military museum, the explosion of several fighters of Turkish air force and accusation of the Greek side in this incident, Turkish armed forces were supposed to overthrow the government by taking the advantage of the chaos in the country.

Turkey underwent a wave of resignations in its armed forces as a sign of protest after the exposure of the Balyoz and Ergenekon plans. However, the country's government said that this will not affect the army's functions.
