Ankara urges Europe to think over Karabakh conflict’s settlement

Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.17

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Europe should think over the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.

He said that instead of adopting a resolution on 1915 events, the European Parliament should make efforts to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, TRT Haber TV channel reported Apr.17.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Apr.15 urging Turkey to recognize the 1915 events as "Armenian genocide".

Turkish prime minister said that no "Armenian genocide" took place in Turkey's history.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out "genocide" against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the genocide" took place. While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.

Turkey has repeatedly expressed readiness to normalize the relations with Armenia if the latter withdraws from Azerbaijan's occupied lands and the European Parliament is aware of that, according to Davutoglu.

The European Parliament should know that racism in Europe has acquired a new look, he said.

The prime minister said the European Parliament should be asked what happened to some nations after the colonization of a number of countries in Asia and Africa by Europe.
