The mayor of the city of Gursu in Turkey's Bursa province, Cuneyt Yildiz was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt May 20, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.
An unknown gunman burst into the mayor's office and opened fire on Yildiz and his bodyguard.
The mayor and the bodyguard, who was also injured in the attack, were taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
The attacker fled and the police are searching for him.
