By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

The US doesn't support the creation of a safe zone in Syria by Turkey, John Kirby, spokesperson for the US Department of State said.

Kirby said that currently, the coalition forces are conducting military operations against the militants of the "Islamic State" terrorist organization and in this connection there is no need to create a safety zone, Kanal7 TV channel reported July 1.

Turkey hasn't made a final decision on creating a safe zone in Syria, therefore, the US doesn't rush to make any conclusions on this issue, he added.

Previously, it was reported that Turkey is considering the creation of safe zones in Syria between the cities of Aleppo, Idlib and the Turkish border, with the inclusion of the border towns of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), Jarabulus and others.

Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu earlier urged the UN to make a decision regarding the creation of safety zones in Syria.

Turkey's authorities have been actively promoting the issue of establishing the safety zone in the north of Syria.

Syrian authorities have repeatedly condemned the intention of the Turkish government and said that Damascus strongly rejects the creation of buffer zones, no matter where they are located.

Earlier, the former head of the Turkish General Staff Ilker Basbug said that the units of the armed forces of Turkey can enter Syria to create safety zones there, but they won't be able to leave that country's territory. He also urged Ankara to support the Syrian government.
