By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Turkey actively fights terrorist groups in the region, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

He made the remarks during a briefing in Tbilisi following the fifth trilateral meeting of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian foreign ministers, TRT Haber reported.

Cavusoglu noted that as distinct from some countries, Turkey doesn't make distinction among terrorist groups.

The IS terrorist group (ISIS, ISIL, or Daesh) poses a serious threat to Turkey, according to Cavusoglu.

"Turkey urges all countries to actively fight terrorist groups without making distinction among them," he said.

The foreign minister also urged Russia to stop air strikes on the positions of Syrian opposition.

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed the lives of over 220,000 people.

Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops.

The "Islamic State" and Jabhat al-Nusra are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
