Construction of the third airport in Istanbul is complete by over 25 percent, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported May 12.
To date, as much as $1.8 billion has been spent on the airport's construction.
The newspaper also reported that the construction of the third airport in Istanbul, which began in 2013, has been accelerated.
The third airport of Istanbul is planned to be commissioned in early 2018.
It is being built near the Lake Terkos in the north of Istanbul.
The airport is expected to be one of the largest in the world and will be named after the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
